I purchased a smaller version of this netbook from Amazon and it lasted for 3 weeks before the hard drive crashed. Luckily Amazon picked it right up, but then I saw they had THIS model on sale, so I thought I’d give Acer another shot. BAD MISTAKE. It never worked out of the box. After 4 calls to the poor English speaking tech support people, and 6 attempts to reload the software, they finally sent me real CD’s. After an hour with yet another tech support person, it was determined that there was a hardware issue and that I was going to have to return it to the factory for repair…get this: AT MY EXPENSE! I tried explaining to the guy that it’s brand new, why should I have to pay to ship it back to get it repaired? “That is Acer’s policy” I was told. I asked for a supervisor and waited on hold for nearly an hour and gave up. So they wasted at least 5 hours of my time, and two weeks waiting for a response for a netbook that never worked right from the factory. Burn me once, OK…but me twice and I won’t do business with you ever again.

I tried many times to create DVD back up after first time of run but when I attached external DVD writer (HP Pavilion DV2-1030US 12.1-Inch Laptop)notebook started to “install new hardware” and stopped without completing it, again and again… When i inserted a DVD to it nothing again. Its may be due to low power on USB port of notebook because when I attached the DVD writer to USB HUB finally I got my back up DVD’s(two DVD). In the other hand you can not work with notebook and DVD player or writer in ambulatory status and you have to use a USB HUB attached to power outlet.

I received my “new” Acer computer from Amazon yesterday. The delivery time was the only positive thing I would give this. I turned the machine on and found out that it was registered to another person — something Zhong in Washington, with a password already in there. I called Acer’s technical support (was given the runaround — about 5 different numbers to call, each one referring me to another number), and rude, rude people who I could not understand. (I have nothing against this, but when I asked for a supervisor, he was mysteriously on another call for 10 minutes).
Finally I did get someone who told me how to reset the computer back to factory conditions (which it should have been, since I bought it “new” supposedly). He said that they may have sent me a refurbished computer by mistake (duh!). So finally that mess was cleared up.
However, getting onto the internet is a real drag. I mean, a REAL DRAG! It is so slow! I use the same line (Comcast) for all of my computers with no problem, quick, zippy, etc. My daughter has an Asus 10 inch that zips right online. I knew I should have gotten one of those instead! But this Acer is horrible. I dont even give it one star. It doesn’t even deserve star dust.

Great little machine. Much superior to the first generation netbooks. Greater speed and alot more data storage capcity

This is the computer I’ve been looking for. The 10.1 inch screen is great; hard disk space is plenty large enough; and the weight is perfect for traveling. I use this for email and surfing the web – which is 95% of what I use a computer for – and it absolutely serves its purpose.

I got the Aspire One with specific needs in mind. In ten months of ownership, it has mostly met those needs. There’s already a ton of reviews, but if your needs are similar to mine, you may find something useful below.
Size: I wanted a small, take anywhere laptop. The Aspire One is super light, and great for taking on a trip. TSA doesn’t give it a second glance, and it fits nicely on the tiny fold down tray on a plane. Because it is so convenient, it helps me to be more productive.
Battery: I have the six cell battery, supposedly rated for five hours of use. Based on my experiences, and the battery meter, my battery is probably good for about four hours. After multiple recharging cycles, battery life seems to have degraded slightly. The battery doesn’t hold a charge that well. After a day or two of nonuse, it can easily drop down to 90 percent.
Processor and Memory: I wanted to be able to run specific programs, store files, and backup photos taken while travelling, or at an event. Based on what was available, the 160GB hard drive seemed like a lot at the time. Paintshop Pro, Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS4, installed fine, but for some reason Photoshop Elements would not. Keeping the machine lean, and only loading what I really need, I have used less than 20% of available memory. There are no major issues running CS4 or Lightroom. So far, the 1.6 GHz processor has been up to the task. It’s not as convenient as a photo bank, but the Aspire One is great for backing up photos while on the road.
Screen: The viewable screen area is generally wide enough, but not very high, so when viewing webpages you can’t see that much at one time. Resolution is fine for viewing photos. While the screen is small, it is still decent enough to do very basic image editing. For those that are presbyopic, or need reading glasses, the default text size at 100% zoom for MS Word or Excel, is rather small, and can be difficult to read. If you don’t want to wear your glasses, you can zoom in, increase your text height, change fonts or text color, or use bold text, to help avoid eye strain.
Keyboard: The keyboard feels very comfortable, and is easy to use. Like most mini laptops, some keys are half-sized, including the directional keys. Unfortunately, I have problems with this type of keyboard, and usually end up doing a `page up’ when I want to go `left’, and a `page down’, when I want to go `right’. It’s a small thing, but it costs me a ton of time. The situation would be the same for most other mini laptops, although some by Asus, Sylvania, and others, appear to have full sized directional buttons.
Miscellaneous: The ventilation fan is relatively silent, just don’t block the vent, as the machine will get hot. The speakers are on the bottom, and if not obstructed, work pretty well for general use and low level music listening, although there are almost no bass tones. The standard power cord is pretty bulky, but there are aftermarket ones on eBay where the transformer is at the plug. You can also get a power cord adapter for a car lighter there. Since there is no DVD drive, you can’t watch movies or burn MP3’s from a CD, but many applications can be conveniently installed via the SD slot. An external mouse is essential to maximizing productivity. Sapphire blue is a very cool color. Annoying fingerprints can be easily removed with a micro fiber cloth.
Overall, the Aspire One is an excellent performer that solidly meets my needs. It can be taken almost anywhere, has a high quality display, and enough processing power to accomplish most tasks. The mini laptop segment has exploded, and I’m not sure how the Aspire One currently stacks up against the competition, but I suspect that it is still a good choice that delivers a solid bang for your buck.

Ok, So I bought 2 of these acer Aspire ones. And After only a month, One of them wont charge, and its clear that the power port is dysfunctional. I called and of course I get some one in India, who I can barely understand. I explained the problem and that it had been over 15 days and walmart wont take it back. He said that is not covered in the warranty and wanted to charge me $199 to fix it!!! Since my ordeal, I have researched and have found that the power ports on these are very cheaply made and super delicate. Bottom line, if you have $300 to spend, save a few more bucks and get something decent from another company. Never again will I buy another Acer Product.

I got my netbook May 28th and on June 10th I was already calling to get it repaired. The computer turns off 30 seconds after I turn it on.
I called the customer service and get someone in India. I sent the product in and when it returned it still dosen’t work. Same problem. I don’t believe they did anything to fix the problem. I didn’t get it to work as soon as it returned.
I have to send it in again. When you call you get someone in India who has to read a script to attempt to fix.
I bought the computer a little over a month ago and have had it work less than 2 weeks.
I feel I should get a new computer or some kind of compensation for all the inconvience I have been through.
I can’t afford to lose the 300 dollars I paid.
Can’t we have costumer service in this country since people here are unemployed.

I bought this for my husband, who was in serious need of a new laptop. I researched all the makers. Even our computer guru friend recommended the Acer. My husband loves the small size and light weight. He primarily uses his computer for e-mail and skype. The built-in camera works perfect for his confrence calls overseas. His only holdback is that now he wants a plug-in cd/dvd-rom for ease of downloading software.
