Vaio’s are terrible computers. Mine has been incredibly slow since I bought it and now my hard drive stopped working properly and I can’t turn it on. When I went to the Sony website for help they told me it would cost $280 to fix. Outrageous. I had an HP for five years with no problems, Vaio’s are garbage, don’t waste your money.

I really like this laptop. It is lightweight and very easy to configure for initial use.

This is a very nice computer and it works perfectly. Very easy to use and keep updated and get support. I am very satisfied. It also looks great on the photos and once you have it in front of you, it does look great, not just on the photos.

Pros:
* Super stylish number with very nice LEDs and a sexy pink color
* Powerful specifications (Intel Core 2 Duo, 250 GB hard drive, DVD writer)
* Fast graphics and wireless connectivity
* Ample USB ports, Firewire
* Solid software because it has 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1
Cons:
* Not all might like the pink color
* Typing on keyboard gives some noise (not very silent)
* A lot of bloatware – you might want to remove them

I bought one Sony Vaio VGN-CS115D on OCT 2008 and after four months of use it started to make a noise that became worst and worst. Now I am having a problem with the cooler fan and I have to buy one new, because I am not on Canada and how is difficult to find the spare fan. I called Sony phone and lost a lot of time until I got the wright sector. Now I am waiting the new cooler fan as it is supposed to arrive just on 3 weeks.
After 1 week of waiting the coolerfan arrived, it was exactly the spare part I needed, so the problem was solved.
Bu I will keep my classification because it is a mechanical problem that happened in lass than 1 year.

Specifications list a high-end “ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3430 graphics (2040 MB total shared)”. NOT. The product only has the low-end “Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family”. BURNED.
Indeed, a search on Sony’s website confirms this.
As such, it is certainly not powerful enough for gaming, and probably not powerful enough for the Blue-Ray player included. In any event, the advertisement is false advertisement. Buyer beware.

Excelente laptop. Gracias Amazon!

I ordered this laptop as a replacement/upgrade to my old one. I haven’t found anything either wrong with it or not as described. I actually shortly after, bought a similar laptop (VGN-NS150J) for my mom as a present. Amazon had the best price I could find and free shipping was decently fast. No complaints. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

My excitment of owning a vaio all went into the drain when I got first hand experience of its performance. In general its processing speed is worse than a pentium 3. And I dont have anything saved on my hard drive since I mostly use it for internet browsing. Everytime I switch on my computer I wonder what will go wrong in the processing today. e.g. internet browsers take ages to open, or if you type its takes ages for the text to appear. I have tried everything possible.
Sony is unwilling to admit that they have a defective model. I would not recommend anyone to buy this. HP, IBM or Dell will provide you with better processing speed. Otherwise you are buying a model claiming to be a core 2 duo and you are getting pentium 2 or 3 at best performance. So if this laptop cant take internet browsing… then if you do more stuff I am not sure how it will take.. it may just crash. So BEWARE!!

I purchased this lap-top as a birthday present for my wife, having had experienced excellent performance with a VAIO that I purchased for myself in back in 2004. I was a bit leary about making an on line purchase of such a potentially fragile item. Those worries were put to rest upon delivery, as it was apparent that extra care had been taken to ensure that delivery was prompt, and the product arrived in good condition.
My only regret in making this purchase, is that I didn’t pay more heed to the concensus on reviews of the VISTA operating system (which came pre-installed on the unit). In the past, I had always heard of, (but pretty well dismissed) all of the negative publicity surrounding the release of a new O.S., because I had never experienced any insurmountable problems with O.S. up-grades over the years, some just took some getting used to. With VISTA however, you can add me to the list of “whiners”. So many things are incompatible, and there are so many “unexplainable” malfunctions, that after 3 weeks of unsuccessful back-and-forth communications with Microsoft Vista Support (via another PC I might add, as we were unable to even perform e-mail & on-line functions with VISTA), I finally gave up & “up-graded” to XP. Things have been fine since then.

This is the third laptop I’ve owned and it is by far the best. When I originally started researching laptops I was reluctant to look at Sony because they always seemed overpriced. After reading reviews, like this one, I decided what the heck you get what you pay for and let me tell you this machine is awesome. Unlike the Dell, and HP machines I owned before this one is light, fast, and very portable at just over 5 lbs with a 14.1″ screen. Let me say the only reason that I didn’t give this VAIO a 5 star rating is because like many others I HATE all the pre-loaded software that come on a new computer and this one seemed to have more than most. Once I uninstalled all of that stuff and tidied up the hard drive this thing zooms. One other small drawback is that the standard battery doesn’t last much more than two to three hours. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this laptop.

UPS lost the package, however Vann’s was great and got me a very quick refund.I would buy from Vann’s and Amazon again.

So I read the reviews on here before buying this laptop 3 months ago (thanks!). I bought it for a long backpacking trip – so I wanted something smaller, with long battery life. The reviews here said the battery life was not what it advertised, and the screen can be pretty dim – impossible to see outdoors when you’re on low power consumption mode. They were right on both counts. I would not count on more than 2.5 or 3 hours of battery, even just to type or surf the web, and if you’re outdoors, maybe less since you’ll have to boost the brightness of the screen.
Other than that, after it’s gone through all the start up – and all the preloaded programs, it’s reasonably fast and a good size for travel, though I think I’d go even smaller for a trip like this – it’s a good balance overall. The keyboard is very nice, but the keys click when you type, I’m not too crazy about that, and there is no “end”, “page up”, etc… which I quite miss.

I was pretty happy with it until I checked the hard drive space: only 287 GB out of 320 GB AND no other partition! Where did the remaining 33 GB go? There usually is a partition that adds up to the total number of GB.
I like the color (gray) and it’s a pretty good deal for the price. Bluetooth and wireless N!!

Hello everyone including Sony technitions.
First it’s important to know that the laptop arrives with the default set at 720p and must be manually changed to 1080p when utilizing the HDMI connection.
Next is you must change the viewing to only external monitor otherwise you cannot watch a Bluray dvd. You will recieve a security problem issue which will not allow you to proceed watching the movie if both the laptop monitor and the TV are viewable at the same time.
I guess someone feels you’re attempting to make a illegal copy?
Next is really important especially to all Disney Bluray DVD owners.
When you watch the previews of coming attractions everything looks and sounds great on your Sony TV from the laptop HDMI connection.
However, when the movie plays you will lose the sound. NO SOUND!
Even the Sony technitions were baffled.
Here’s the reason….
The Disney soundtrack is automatically default set for 7.1 surround sound.
You cannot hear the sound at this default setting.
You must access the DVD setup menu and change the audio to ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK.
This happened with “Sleeping Beauty”, “Pinochio” & Wall-E.
I only own these 3 Bluray DVD’s so no one could figure out why I wasn’t hearing the sound when the movie played.
Also, I might add that the movies play great on the laptop no matter which audio track you utilize.
This problem only happens with the HDMI connection to a TV such as my new Sony KDL-46XBR6.
The only other item I will mention is the volume on the laptop is really low when watching a movie so plan to use headphones or an external powered speaker when a little noise is in your enviroment.
I plan to keep this laptop because overall it performs great even with Windows Vista installed.

It is sleek, yet is surprisingly heavy when held. A downside to this laptop is that the WiFi connection needs to be improved.

I’ve had this laptop for about two weeks and I love it. Whren I turn it on, the start-up time is about 5 seconds then I can go straight to the internet. My last laptop was a Dell and it took about seven or eight minutes to go through the start-up process. Also the keyboard is solid where the Dell keys were mushy. My only frustration is with Windows Vista because I’m not able to easily find some programs…..I ordered a Windows Vista for Dummies so hopefully that will help.

My old Sony died unexpectedly, so I needed a system that was ready to go, not one to order customized, as it shipped faster. I looked at other brands, but knowing how great the Sonys are for graphics I decided to stick with what I love.
This laptop is terrific as far as brightness and clarity of display. I’ve never seen brighter, and I work on friends laptops all the time. I couldn’t ask for better. The 4GB of RAM and Windows 64 bit Vista are very responsive. My only complaint with the 64 bit version is I’ve already found a couple of common software programs that are not 64-bit compatible.
I’d highly recommend this laptop for out-of-the-box readiness to go.
